What's Been Happening?
It's
that time of year when hot cocoa is made and blankets are pulled out
for a warm snuggle. We marked this special holiday by hosting a
Christmas Bazaar for children of all ages.
Attendees
had loads of fun with activities such as ornament decorating, treasure
hunts in the sand, and Pin the Nose on the Snowman. It was delightful to
see children become ecstatic after leaving the face painting table and
realizing their face had transformed into a strawberry or a small
version of batman. Although the day was hot, the addition of Blue
Pumpkin's ice-cream stand was a hit with children and adults alike.
Parents
were able to check out DK Schoolhouses facilities and programs while
letting their children participate in water play and relays. Children
were especially delighted with our hand-crafted giveaways and Blue
Pumpkin party favors. Of course, our day would not have been completed
without a visit from Santa Clause and his little Elf with her wand for a
special holiday treat.
Special Focus:
How Early Is Too Early for Early Learning?
If intelligence is the ability to learn, then babies are born geniuses!
The younger the brain, the more malleable it is - which means a child's brain absorbs information like a sponge. After birth, the baby's brain continues wiring itself in response to the things it experiences. Learning at this age is faster and more effortless than it will ever be again.
Acquiring our native language from birth guarantees that we will master that language, regardless of how linguistically gifted we are as adults. Likewise, anyone can master the skills of reading, math or music, so long as they begin learning at a young enough age.
A baby's brain is hardwired for learning, making babies the most avid students in the world. What's more, babies and small children carry none of the conformations of academia that comes from being subject to school routine, quizzes, tests and examinations. For babies, learning is only pure enjoyment.
